Dave Dolphin on what happened last summer and how to respond and move on from church hurt in ministry

Regular listeners to this podcast and those that keep up with me on YouTube and social media know that something went down last summer in 2018. Almost a year later I want to share my story. It’s a story about being hurt in ministry and how to respond when it happens and how to move on past it and heal. The reason why I want to share this story is to encourage other people in ministry. If you’ve gone through something similar (or you’re going through it right now), one of the most encouraging things you can hear are “me too” and “you’re not alone.”

Below are a few videos that were created while this was all going on in the background:

This is a typical Practical Worship video. In terms of content, it’s no different than any other video I released around that time. But this video was shot the day after “the meeting” going into Memorial Day weekend, the same Friday I said I was an emotional mess. I did my best to hide it—and honestly having a video to shoot was a nice diversion to the pain I was feeling at the time—but it’s interesting to watch again knowing what’s going on behind the scenes.

This is the YouTube video I released when I announced I was taking a break from YouTube. It was uploaded on June 1, 2018, shortly after I had "the meeting." I’ve since made the video “unlisted,” but I’ve kept it to remind myself how far I’ve come.

This is the Facebook Live video where I first announced to everyone that I was leaving. These Facebook Live videos had been a weekly occurrence on my account where we would first have a short dialogue in front of the camera (me and one other member of the worship team), then we’d do the full run-through of the weekend service music set.
