The cancer is GONE!
The results are in: all signs point to the cancer being GONE!
On Monday of this week I had my labs and a CT. Then I met with my oncologist on Tuesday to get the results and his recommendation on what happens next.
What was the size of a tennis ball (7 cm) is now the size of this quarter (2 cm), and what remains is most likely scar tissue (common for this time of cancer). Labs and markers all seem to point to the cancer being gone as well.
The next step is I see the oncologist every two months for a year, just to stay on observation. But no more chemo.
The whole thing is surreal. My wife will ask me how I feel about everything, and the answer is I don’t know. I never felt the threat of the disease, so it’s hard to imagine being free from something that never seemed to be threatening my life (although it was, even in its early stages).
But I definitely felt the effects of the treatment, and being almost three weeks from my last chemo treatment, I’m starting to feel a bit more normal.
It will take several months to truly be back to normal—to get my hair back and my sense of taste back—but every day I seem to gain just a little bit more energy than I had yesterday.
These last few months have not been easy, but because of everyone that prayed, because of everyone that gave a gift or brought a meal, because of everyone that called or texted me or my wife or one of my kids... because of God showing His love through our friends and family it was easier than it could of been. You all are amazing and my family is thankful for each and everyone one of you.
